Professor and Director of the Media and Communications Program at the University of Melbourne from June 2006, Cubitt was previously Professor of Screen and Media at the University of Waikato, NZ, and Professor of Media Arts at Liverpool John Moores University, UK. As a journalist, curator, essayist, and scholar, as a director of arts organizations (and Chair of the Board of the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology, Liverpool for five years), as a member of policy bodies in the arts (British Film Institute, Arts Council of Great Britain/England, Greater London Arts) and in social science and humanities education (Performance Based Research Fund, and Marsden Fund of the Royal Society of New Zealand) Cubitt has worked with policy makers, planners, and implementation teams as well as artists and scholars in new media for two decades. His recent books include EcoMedia (Rodopi) and The Cinema Effect (MIT).
