About "Urban Screens"

What are Urban Screens?

Urban screens are dynamic digital displays and visual interfaces located within and addressing urban public spaces. They include LED screens and signs, plasma screens, projections, information terminals as well as intelligent architectural surfaces, media facades and other forms of future screens.
Urban screens support the idea of using public space as a platform for creation and exchange of culture, strengthening of the local economy and encouraging public interaction and discussion, in consideration of a well balanced, sustainable urban society.

The Urban Screens Initiative

Urban Screens is the beginning of a worldwide movement promoting the extended use of digital displays in public spaces. The Urban Screens initiative represented by the International Urban Screens Association (IUSA) will assist their networking abilities and their sustainable integration in the urban landscape. It will examine how current commercial use can be broadened with cultural and social content and thus become a new public exhibition and information format.

Through a series of travelling annual Urban Screens conferences, screening events and the platform of the International Urban Screens Association we aim to establish and support this "Urban Screens movement" and foster exchange of ideas and content between interested parties.

We aim to explore the possibilities of using the growing digital infrastructure to contribute to a livelier, more balanced urban society.
